Tycoon is a screenplay editor and a marketplace. Write in the app or upload a draft, list it, and producers read it in a matrix next to its comps: the TMDB titles it is like, and what they made.

Write

A screenplay editor that formats as you type, with Final Draft keys, autocomplete for names and locations, revisions, and PDF, Final Draft, and Fountain export.

Upload

A PDF is read by its margins into scene headings, cues, and dialogue, so an existing draft gets the same breakdown and can be edited here.

Breakdown

Speaking roles, locations, night exteriors, and scene lengths in eighths, counted from the draft. Producers see it next to the comps.

Comps

Saving a script ranks TMDB titles by shared genres and keywords. Writers pin their own. Producers see budgets, grosses, and the multiple for each.

Credits

A writer stores a TMDB person id. Tycoon reads that person's writing credits and shows them next to the script.

Requests

A producer asks for the file and keeps private coverage on every script. The writer accepts or declines from the desk. Decisions are emailed when mail is configured.

What happens after the script

Guides for writers on options, development, financing, and budgets. Signed in, each one reads your own draft: the days its pages suggest, the band its comps put it in, and how far it has gone.

Read the guides
  1. From spec to release

The stages a script goes through once it is written, who makes the decision at each one, and when the writer gets paid.

  2. How a film is paid for

Budget bands, where the money comes from in each one, the order it is paid back in, and what a comp's gross does and does not tell you.

  3. What the pages cost

How a line producer turns a draft into a schedule and a budget, and which choices on the page move the number.
